Food and Culture Day!

After a lecture (filling in your Food and Culture sheets) we practiced how to use chopsticks! This is to prepare us for Monday's food lab (sushi!).

Day Ten

Happy Valentines Day!

We took started the class with a discussion of Cultural Taboos from around the World! Please be sure that you have all of the taboos matched with the appropriate country/description.

You all finished presenting your Cultural Japan mind maps. Well done! You guys were also very quick to recognize some of the stereotypes in our class.

We started our study of Geisha in Japan by watching the first 15 minutes of the documentary "The Secret Life of Geisha". You have been given handouts for the documentary that you will need to complete and hand in!

In today's class we had our introduction to our first major travel topic: Culture!

We talked about the meaning of culture (it's socially constructed...).
And, we took a note on the Four Phases of Culture Shock.

Congratulations on a wonderful EUROFAIR! The creativity that I saw today was OUTSTANDING! Thank you so, so much for putting together such remarkable displays. The comments I heard from staff and students were ALL positive. Well done!

I handed out a 'Eurofair' checklist to help remind you of all required elements for the project. I also had a number of display boards for you to use ... remember, nothing to big! We want to see you behind the display tables...

Thursday is the day! Please remember to not bring food with any nuts (or traces of nuts). Read packages carefully.
